Each person is differently resistant to disease. Immune memory, which is the body’s ability to remember what pathogen it has fought and how to get rid of it, is also different. The next time we meet, the body will remember everything and trigger an effective immune response. People with weak immunity have a lazier immune memory, so their body’s response to the pathogen is slow. Many times so much so that they will reexperience the symptoms of the disease they’ve overcome. Fortunately, there are ways to encourage the body to respond again as quickly as possible.
A sufficient intake of vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc and other elements and components such as fibre is important for the support and functioning of the immune system for healthy bacterial colonisation of the gut. Without these elements, the immune system can be weaker, slower, diseases can break out more easily and can have a more severe course. Getting enough of them doesn’t automatically mean that you’ll avoid illnesses, but it does mean that you’ll manage them far more easily the first time and may not even notice that something is wrong the second time around.
Zinc will promote the growth of memory cells
The smoother course of the disease is mainly due to zinc, which promotes the growth, proliferation and function of all immune cells. “All humans have pre-prepared T and B lymphocytes in their bodies that are able to recognize the stimuli of a new pathogenic virus. The T and B lymphocyte system is also able to create an immune memory,” explains prof. Jan Krejsek, Head of the Institute of Clinical Immunology and Allergy at the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and the University Hospital Hradec Králové. Thanks to this, the organism reacts quickly and efficiently to a future encounter with the same stimulus. If all the cells of immunity, including the memory ones, are sufficient.
This is what zinc is involved in. Vitamin D in turn helps to activate white blood cells, namely NK cells (natural killers), whose main job is to defend against viral, parasitic and bacterial infections. In the body, the deco has 2,500 other functions, including regulating the immune response so that it is not overwhelmed and carried away by its own cells in addition to the pathogen. Vitamin C functions here as an accelerator that drives all the immune processes. In the case of vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc, it is a legitimate claim that without sufficient intake of these, immunity is deficient. “Supplementation of these essential components in the form of good quality food supplements can be recommended as a preventative measure, but also in the form of increased doses at signs of infection or feelings of loss of vitality. It also acts indirectly on our psyche, “says immunologist prof. RNDr. Jan Krejsek. The synergy of these elements serves as support in times of severe respiratory illness. Also during excessive physical activity, or if you can not take them in the diet or in the case of vitamin D from the sun.
Without a healthy life, it won’t work
Experts recommend a steady balanced diet, optimal weight, plenty of exercise and sleep. Despite all the conveniences of modern medicine, the composition of the diet has a major impact on the psyche, health and appearance. Diseases of the heart or digestive system, a weak immune system, being overweight, but also a bad mood, a full mood and a whole series of others. These can all be consequences of a diet with an unbalanced ratio of nutrients and with a minimum of vitamins. Strong immunity built on a balanced diet, movement and sleep is not completely impossible. But it is an ongoing, and most importantly, long-term process. It’s not something that a few weeks of a responsible lifestyle will work, so it’s okay to support your efforts with supplements as well.
